After a tough competition journey that began in April I was absolutely over the moon to be awarded the gold medal at the finals of the WorldSkills UK Fitness Trainer competition at the Birmingham NEC on November 17th!

As one of 8 finalists, I was put through my paces for 2 days with a range of tasks, judged by a panel of experts, including delivering a PT session, running a ‘taster’ boot camp, writing a progressive strength programme for a new client and delivering a business presentation.

The competition was part of the wider WorldSkills UK range of competitions, aimed at newly trained practical professionals and designed to showcase the skills and knowledge required across a huge range of careers. My audience at these live finals at the NEC was mainly students from visiting schools, keen to shout encouragement to my puffed-out boot camp clients and to watch us PT’s try and get to grips with high energy Zumba at the demo classes – where we got to be the clients – the day after the competition!

It was a huge honour to compete with my  fellow finalists, who were each an inspiration and source of new knowledge to me in a different way. I can’t wait to go back next year as a medallist and support future competitors!
